HMRC
HMRC, or Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs, is the UK government department responsible for the collection of taxes, payment of some forms of state support, and the administration of various regulatory regimes. Formed in 2005 through a merger, it is one of the UK's largest government departments, employing tens of thousands of people across the country. HMRC's core functions include collecting income tax, corporation tax, VAT, and duties. It also oversees customs controls and enforces tax laws, working to prevent tax evasion and fraud.
