Friends of the Earth

Friends of the Earth is an international environmental NGO advocating for climate justice, biodiversity protection, and sustainable economic systems. Founded in 1969 and headquartered in Amsterdam, it is one of the most influential environmental networks in the world, with over 70 national member organisations and thousands of local activist groups. The UK branch, Friends of the Earth England, Wales and Northern Ireland, operates as an independent charity with a strong campaigning presence, focused on issues like fossil fuel divestment, nature restoration, air pollution, and climate legislation. The organisation works through a combination of public mobilisation, legal action, policy research, and grassroots community engagement. Friends of the Earth is known for its uncompromising stance on environmental justice and for holding governments and corporations accountable through advocacy, litigation, and direct action.
