Financial Conduct Authority
The Financial Conduct Authority is the UK’s primary regulator for financial markets and services, responsible for protecting consumers, ensuring market integrity, and promoting competition. Based in London, the FCA regulates nearly 50,000 firms, including banks, insurers, asset managers, and fintechs. It oversees a wide array of sectors from retail lending and advice to trading platforms, cryptoassets, and listing requirements. The FCA sets conduct standards, monitors systemic risks, enforces rules through investigations and fines, and develops regulatory policy in line with market developments and government objectives. It works closely with the Bank of England, PRA, and international bodies like ESMA and IOSCO. The FCA has taken a leading role on issues such as green finance, digital assets, operational resilience, and financial inclusion, and continues to evolve its supervisory approach to address technological innovation and post-Brexit regulation.
